Pathogenesis of concurrent eye and joint diseases.

THE reasons for discussing the subject of concurrent eye and joint diseases in this Society are (a) the,great interest displayed in it by Swedish clinicians (Sjogren, Stenstam, Stig Holm, Edstromn and Osterlind); and (b) the recent advances concerning the physiopathology and serological diagnoses of the joint diseases (blood cultivation and antibody measurements, including the antistrepto4ysin titre and agglutination test). These advances, together with the intensified research work within the field of allergy, which has led to the discovery of the antihistamine substances, as well as to the unfolding of further possibilities in virus pathology (thanks to the electron microscope and better methods of cultivation) have thrown new light on various joint diseases.
